Being an open source developer is an career itself. Been more than 20 years developing open source is way more than that.

That moment that you start to your first line of code and understand that the there's something else. There ALWAYS something else.

That moment that you discover that what you are doing can lead to another doing to another doing and never stops.

I want to show how my experience comes from an itchy to a necessity to and interest to a profession to the driver of my professional career,

From a Swabian car manufacturer to an open source enthusiast

Martin Haselbach (Daimler TSS GmbH)
Basem Vaseghi (Daimler TSS GmbH)

For over 100 years we have striven for engineering excellence in our cars. Get into the seat of a Mercedes and the quality and the craftsmanship speaks for itself. We would like to tell the same story when it comes to the software in our cars. However, 10 years ago we came to realize that using a hardware approach to achieve quality was doomed to fail when it comes to the software side of it. Nowadays, a customer sees a car as a “phone on wheels” and expects the same level of usability, configurability, and ease of use, while being stylish and up-to-date with today’s standards.

A harmonized open source platform for effectiveness assessment in the field of automated driving

Tuan Duong Quang (TUEV SUED Auto Service GmbH)

The rise of advanced driver assistance systems and partially automated driving functions leads to the need of virtual simulation to assess these systems and their effects. This especially refers, but is not limited, to safety effects in traffic. There are various methods and tools for prospective evaluation of safety systems with respect to traffic safety. Implementing the methodology by creating and maintaining the openPASS platform will support reliability and transparency of results obtained by simulation.
