Open Source has been one of the greatest technology and innovation enablers for the past few decades. However, with the rise in popularity and importance of open source, there have been many new threats to how open source can continue to function as an open enabler for us all. From non-open licenses to closed governance models to regulations restricting open source, our open source community faces many challenges as we evolve.
At Huawei, we believe that open source should be safeguarded and remain truly open. We will share some of our experiences and learnings for how we have been working to keep open open.
Objective of the presentation:
This presentation hope to raise a light on changes that are currently happening which act as a threat to the future of open source, such as via regulations with the Cyber Resilience & AI Acts and the increasing use of licenses that do not meet the Open Source Definition. This presentation hopes to give the audience some steps taken by Huawei to try to help safeguard open source to remain truly open.
We would also like to hear from the Eclipse Foundation community your thoughts on what else can be done together.
