Digital Sovereignty by Design

As “Data” becomes the new oil. Digital Sovereignty becomes a critical asset around the globe. Just like every Data System has Identity and User Management by design today, modern systems will have Data Sovereignty (sharing) by design.
Open Source software will play a crucial role in achieving Digital Sovereignty, by providing common standards and reference implementations for sovereign data processing and Data-Exchange.
The European Union especially has made strong moves to secure its digital sovereignty with a common vision for 2030, based on Sovereign Data Exchange and portable Cloud Services. Data Act, DMA and DSA will provide the necessary legislative framework. The open source community are playing a crucial role, by providing common standards and reference implementations.
Eclipse foundation, with its clear commitment to European Values is becoming an anchor point for the up-coming ecosystem. This carries similar potential to what we have seen with CNCF and the Kubernetes ecosystem, allowing open and sovereign data processing and exchange in various industry domains.
In this talk we will sketch a journey towards “Sovereignty by design” and demonstrating two reference implementations for sovereign Data Exchange (Boot-X) and Portable Cloud Services (OSC – Eclipse Xpanse https://eclipse.dev/xpanse/ ).

Objective of the presentation:
In this talk we hope to shine a light on the fact that Eclipse Foundation already has the cornerstone set in place to act as the anchor point to achieving Digital Sovereignty, by providing the Open Source roof to house the common standards and reference implementations required for sovereign data processing and Data-Exchange to be implemented. We shall then provide you more details on the reference implementations for sovereign Data Exchange (Boot-X) and the Portable Cloud Services (OSC – Eclipse Xpanse https://eclipse.dev/xpanse/ ) that we Huawei has already donated into this Eclipse Foundation anchor point.
