Ignite Talk: Implementing Gamification for your Community by Antoine Thomas

What will you cover in your ignite talk ?

Stadium My talk is about gamification: the use of elements of game play in non-game contexts. So, I will first explain the concepts using the example of a game (soccer - european football), see the picture attached. Then, I will explain what your thought process should be when implementing gamification in a non-game context, like an application or a website.

Why are people are considering implementing gamification?

Most people think that gamification will make people participate more in their communities, and that makes it a very trendy topic. However, Stackoverflow CEO, Joel Spolsky, says they noticed that people do not participate more, but it helps to identify personas and learn about what they do with your application or on your website. I won't go too much into details here: I wouldn't have anything left to say in my talk ;-)

Why is the ignite format a good way to start the conversation with people?

The Ignite format is short, very very short. You have to be prepared, to summarize, and this way, you speak about the true essentials. This is a real challenge, too.

What are your experiences seeing other ignite talks?

The most impressive ignite talk I have seen was from the French director of RedHat. At the end of the 5 minutes, the first thing I did was to google him. My previous Boss at Bonitasoft, Rodrigue Legall, was very good at short talks. So I hope I will handle the challenge well ;-)
