While voice interaction has become very widespread for the smart home, a typical nerd prefers sticking the keyboard for inter-personal communication. Chatbots are a great way between those two approaches: They can be used like an instant messenger and voice input/output is an option, but not mandatory.
In this talk, it will be shown how a personal Home Automation chat bot can be build on top of Eclipse SmartHome, which is fully based on open-source, runs locally and understands natural language. It will be explained, how natural language processing (NLP) is adopted for this and why ontology modelling and semantic tagging are an important topic of such a system.
Obviously, the talk will also include a live demo of the bot controlling real smart home devices.
