I'm currently the Managing Director of the Eclipse Foundation Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of the Eclipse Foundation Inc., responsible for supporting the Eclipse open-source community and commercial ecosystem in Europe.
With over 260 corporate members worldwide and over 150 projects, Eclipse is one of the world’s most successful open source communities.
Prior to joining Eclipse in 2005, I have worked for Vector Informatik, IBM , OTI and Siemens.
I've earned a degree as a Diplom-Informatiker from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. I can also lay bricks.
I am a postdoc researcher at USI, Switzerland. Since I first implemented optimization algorithms for GCC (as a Master student), I've always loved working with static analysis. This led to a Ph.D. at the Univ. of Szeged in Hungary, where I studied reverse engineering techniques on data-intensive systems. At the University of Namur in Belgium, we studied techniques to extract and analyze SQL embedded in Java, which we presented at international SE conferences and implemented as an Eclipse plugin. Besides academia, I took part and led many industrial projects which also motivated my research.
Simon works as a freelance software architect and builds distributed systems in Java/OSGi.
On a never-ending quest to build robust and efficient software, he is interested in high performance and likes to mix ideas from functional programming, model-driven design and component-based architecture.
