Based on eight years of good and bad experiences with the Xtext project and others, I will present our view on what is important to run an open source project successfully. This involves the choice of tools, the setup of the infrastructure, marketing strategies, sociological aspects and more. I will discuss various alternatives in order to make your project popular, attract contributors, grow and maintain a healthy community and stay viral in the long run.
