Build your responsive HTML5 single page applications with Eclipse Scout

Learn how to write good looking HTML5 applications in Java with the Scout framework.

With the Neon release of the Scout framework you can now build modern HTML5 applications. Out of the box your HTML5 frontend will runs on desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Developers attending the tutorial should bring solid experience with the Java language. As Scout applications (including the frontend) are implemented in Java, only minimal knowledge regarding HTML5/CSS3/Javascript is required.

The tutorial consists of an intro part and a hands-on part. In the intro part participants will first learn about the highlights of the new Scout Neon release, the new Java platform, the standard Maven project structure and the new HTML5 renderer.

The hands-on part includes the following blocks:

  • Implementation of the "Hello World" application
  • Installation of the Scout tutorial application in the Eclipse IDE
  • Design and Implementation of a form based application
    • Form layout
    • Form fields
    • Field validation
    • Form life cycle and data persistence

At the end, participants will have built their first Scout application, know about the main features of the Scout framework and know how to start building their own Scout applications.

Preparations: Participants are required to bring their own laptops. We will inform you on the required software installation well ahead of the tutorial.
