Call for Papers

Submissions are now closed. Thanks to all who sent in proposals. The program will be announced by early August. We have left the Call for Papers information here for reference.

EclipseCon Europe is about sharing best practices, insights, case studies, and innovations in the Eclipse community and in the wider world of software development. We want attendees to be educated and inspired after each talk, and we need your help to create a great program. We are pleased to once again co-locate with the OSGi Alliance Community Event, adding more breadth and expertise to the program.

Theme Days. This year’s conference includes two Theme Days: an IoT Day on Tuesday, 25 October, and a Project Quality Day on Wednesday, 26 October. Theme Days offer a full track of content on their specific topics.

If you have questions that aren't answered below, please see the Submission FAQs or Speaker FAQs. Still need help? Email us.

Talk Categories

  • Tools, IDE, & DevOps. There are countless plugins and tools based on Eclipse to support developers in their daily work. Technologies such EGit, Xtext, Mylyn, the various Eclipse IDEs, Papyrus, and more cover use cases from typical IDE features over domain-specific languages to application lifecycle management. Tell us about the best plugins and tools built on Eclipse, how you have built them, and what technologies they adopt.
  • Java 9. The next Java version is about to be released. Java 9 promises interesting features such as a module system, an improved progress API, and an HTTP 2 client. If you are an early adopter, tell us about your first experience. Explain which new features you are using, and let us know how the new Java version affects Eclipse.
  • Eclipse Technology. Eclipse is not only an IDE; it is a host for a lot of great open-source runtime technologies such as Equinox, RAP, RCP, and the Eclipse 4 Application Platform. New technologies from the vibrant Eclipse ecosystem as well as state-of-the-nation talks go here.
  • OSGi. The OSGi Alliance Community Event 2016 offers a full OSGi specific program, which is open to all ECE attendees. Talks related to OSGi technology and the OSGi ecosystem, including use cases and new initiatives around OSGi IoT, Cloud, and OSGi enRoute, should be submitted here. OSGi provides a vendor-independent, standards-based approach to modularizing Java software applications and infrastructure. Its proven services model enables app and infrastructure modules to communicate locally and distributed across the network, providing a coherent architecture for IoT services. OSGi specifications are tested and ready now to provide highly scalable remote management and effective maintenance over the long term.
  • Web & Cloud Development & Operations. If you are implementing Web / JEE applications or want to share your experience with modern web frameworks such as AngularJS, Vaadin, or JSON Forms, your talk goes here. This is also the track for talks about cloud development and operation tools at Eclipse such as Orion, Che, Flux, Dirigible, or other ways to move tooling to the cloud, such as browser-based UIs for developer tools and next-generation IDEs.
  • Industry Solutions. There are a lot of solutions based on Eclipse technology, and we want to hear about them. Please tell us what you are doing with the cool projects provided by the Eclipse community. Your talk could show others how to use the software, or provide feedback for project developers.
  • Introduction to the Eclipse Ecosystem. There are a lot of people out there — and at the conference — who are fairly new to the Eclipse community and projects. This is your chance to tell them about your project and bring new members into your community. Assume that attendees at these talks have limited experience with Eclipse, so provide a good overview about your topic. (Save the in-depth stuff for the other tracks.)
  • Science & LocationTech. This track is for you if you want to talk about the tools on your scientific workbench as well as location-aware technologies. Show how you perform data analysis, visualization, or modeling in your field. Talk about data formats, protocols, and tools, plus the latest about Science and LocationTech projects hosted by Eclipse.
  • IoT Day. This Theme Day features sessions on developing applications for IoT. If you have a story to tell about using Eclipse IoT projects, experience reports about building IoT solutions or new open source projects for IoT, then submit here.
  • Project Quality Day. Here we are looking for presentations on any topics related to quality in projects. If you’re talking about testing, analyzing, checking, or building/deploying in CI environments, then submit your talk in this track.
  • Other Cool Stuff. Not everything will fit easily into one of these tracks. If your talk is one that's hard to categorize, submit it here!

If you aren't sure what track is the best fit for your submission, just take a best guess and the program committee may change it later.

Talk Types

  • Standard (35 minutes)
  • Tutorial (3 hours)

Important Dates

  • May 16: submissions open
  • June 30: early-bird submission deadline
  • July 18: final submission deadline

Please Note

You must have an eclipse.org account and be logged in before you can submit a talk. If you have created a new eclipse.org account but are not able to log in, please confirm that you have activated the account. See this section of the Submissions FAQs for more information.

Not all speakers receive discounts. The first speaker on a standard talk and the first and second speakers on a tutorial receive a free pass.

We strongly encourage the actual speakers to submit their own proposals. We want speakers who are engaged with the community and really want to speak at the conference. Sometimes a third party will submit on a speaker’s behalf. The program committee will review all proposals, but proposals submitted by third parties will be given lower priority.
