How do I register?
Click on the Register button on the home page; this will take you to the Registration page. Please read the information there before registering, especially the part about discounts. For more information about discounts, read below.

To go to the actual Registration site, click on the Register Now button from the Registration page. Enter your email address, and follow the prompts. If you have attended EclipseCon before, please log in with the same email address and password you used before.

What are the registration fees?
Registration fees vary; please see our fee table on the Registration page.

Do I need to pre-register for the sessions I want to attend?
Yes and no!
The "yes" part: pre-registration is required for all tutorials, which are held on Tuesday, October 23, 9:00 - 12:30. There is no extra cost for tutorials, but space is limited and pre-registration is necessary. Registration for tutorials will open in September. If you register before then, you may add a tutorial later – we'll send out a notice to remind you. The disclaimer: Pre-registration does not guarantee a reserved seat in a tutorial, but it does help us schedule the more popular sessions into the bigger rooms.
The "no" part: for the technical sessions on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday, and Thursday, no pre-registration is required – your conference registration provides access to all talks, both OSGi Community Event sessions and EclipseCon Europe sessions.

What payment methods can I use?
ECE accepts payments via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) or via wire transfer.

What currency can I use to pay?
Credit card payments must be made in US dollars. Wire transfer payments must be made in euros.

Why can't I pay in euros using a credit card?
The Eclipse Foundation is a North American company, and current banking regulations prevent us from taking direct credit card payments in euros. We set the registration fees first in euros, and then determine our US dollar prices using a formula based on the exchange rates in effect during the 90-day period before registration opens. Our goal in setting the rate is to avoid changing the rate after registration opens and prevent loss of conference income, not to profit from the exchange of currencies.

Since the registration system uses US dollars, an attendee paying with a euro-based credit card will see a charge on the card statement that represents the US dollar registration charge converted to euros at the current exchange rate (plus any fees charged by the financial institution).

Please note: if there is a significant change in the rate after registration opens, we may need to adjust the USD prices during the registration period, though we will try hard to avoid that.

How do I pay via wire transfer?
Wire transfer payments are accepted in euros only; please see the Registration page for the fee schedule. For security reasons, we do not publish our bank account information on the website. Please complete your registration and upon receiving your “registration pending” notice, email us a request for wire transfer information and your invoice in euros.

I'm paying with a wire transfer in euros; why does my automated invoice/receipt show the price in dollars?
Our registration system can only produce the automated invoice/receipt in US dollars. That's why we email you an invoice in euros when you request wire transfer payment information. If you need a receipt in euros after you pay via wire, please email us to request one.

What happens if I select "wire transfer" when I register?
Registrations are not active and your attendance is not guaranteed until the funds are received by the Eclipse Foundation. So a wire transfer payment will stay in the "pending" state until we can confirm receipt of the payment in our bank account. It can take weeks for the payment to finalize. We are happy to hold your registration at the rate at which you registered if you notify us that your wire payment is in process.

Please note that registration fees go up as we get closer to the conference. If your registration is pending when the price goes up and you have not notified us that your payment is in process, we will email you to ask about your payment plans. If we do not hear from you within two weeks, your registration will automatically be upgraded to the new and higher price.

We strongly encourage you to pay by credit card if possible so that your registration is activated immediately.

Who gets a discount on registration?
Lots of people get discounts: Eclipse members, Eclipse committers, EclipseCon alumni, OSGi members, press, students, academic faculty, ECE speakers, and ECE sponsors. For more information on discounts, see the Registration page and the Speaker FAQs, or read below.

Do you have group discounts?
We can offer discounts to groups of five (5) or more people from the same organization. The larger the group, the bigger the discount (up to a point!). Please note that group discouts are not combinable with other discounts, such as member, speaker, etc. Only registrants not receiving another type of discount "count" toward the group discount. Please email us for more information on group discounts.

Do you have one-day passes or allow sharing of conference registrations?
All conference registrations are for the full three days. We cannot accommodate sharing of registrations except for people attending on a sponsor pass.

How do I register with a sponsor discount?
If you're a sponsor, we love you, and we prove it by sending you regular emails. We will send you an email in August with information about how to register with your coupon code. If you're reading this and it is September or later and you don't recall seeing the email, please email us. If you plan to register with a sponsor discount, please do NOT register until you have your coupon code.

How do I register with a speaker discount?
Speaker discounts are implemented with coupon codes. If you join the hallowed ranks of accepted speakers, we will send you a coupon code after the program is chosen in late August. Please note that to register with a speaker discount you must be the FIRST speaker on a standard or extended talk, or the FIRST or SECOND speaker on a tutorial. For more on this topic, please see the Speaker FAQs. If you plan to register with a speaker discount, please do NOT register until you have your coupon code.

I'm attending the OSGi Community Event; how do I register as an OSGi member?
We are very happy that the OSGi Community Event is co-locating with us this year; welcome! Register as an OSGi member by entering the coupon code OSGi in the coupon box on the registration page.

How do I register with a student discount?
A limited number of discounted passes are available for college and university students. (Sorry; they are discounted, not free.) To ask for a student discount, please email us.

How do I register with an academic discount?
Discounted passes are available for college and university faculty or staff. To ask for an academic discount, please email us.

How do I register with a press discount?
We offer free registration to pre-qualified press and analysts. Please email us for more information and pre-qualification.

How do I know if I am an Eclipse member, and how do I register with a member discount?
A person is an Eclipse member as per the Eclipse Bylaws. The short version is that a member is an employee of an Eclipse member company. A mostly up-to-date list of the member companies is available on the Eclipse website. If you are not sure if your employer is an Eclipse member, please feel free to ask us. If you would like your company to become a member, please have the appropriate DMP (decision-making person) contact the Eclipse Foundation. There are many benefits of membership including discounted registration to EclipseCon.

Register as a member by entering the coupon code MEMBER in the coupon box on the registration page.

How do I know if I am an Eclipse committer, and how do I register with a committer discount?
We're pretty sure you know if you are an Eclipse committer. But we'll give you the official answer anyway. A committer is developer on an Eclipse project who has commit rights to the corresponding eclipse.org code repository. All committers have unix accounts on dev.eclipse.org, so if you don't have an account there, then you are not a committer. If you would like to become a committer, the best way to start is to contact the project lead of an interesting project; committers are elected by their peers based on the quantity and quality of their contributions to an Eclipse project. It's a role to be proud of, and an honor not given lightly.

Register as a committer by entering the coupon code COMMITTER in the coupon box on the registration page. (And don't you feel proud to be a committer after that description of your role?)

How do I know if I qualify as an alumnus, and how do I register with an alumni discount?
If you have attended EclipseCon Europe or EclipseCon North America in the past, welcome back! Register by entering the coupon code ALUMNI in the coupon box on the registration page.

How can I cancel my registration if my plans change?
All cancellations must be received via email. If received before October 1, 2012, we will charge you €50 (for those paying via wire transfer) or $50 (for those paying via credit card) for a processing fee. No refund of any kind, for any reason (including medical emergencies), will be given for cancellation requests received after October 1, 2012. No-shows are liable for the entire conference fee.

Can I transfer my registration to another person?
Registration transfers are allowed, but we must receive notification by October 15, 2011 via email. This request must include the name of the person who is currently registered and the name, email, and organization of the person replacing the registered attendee.

What happens if the Eclipse Foundation cancels the conference?
The Eclipse Foundation reserves the right to cancel the event or substitute speakers. In the unlikely event that the Eclipse Foundation should have to cancel EclipseCon Europe 2012, conference attendees will be refunded for the amount paid for the conference, but the Eclipse Foundation is not responsible for any attendee's other related expenses, including hotel and travel. Refunds will be issued within 15 business days after the scheduled conclusion of the conference.
