Eclipse Cloud Dev Tools Community Day

Community Day at EclipseCon is a great event for Eclipse working groups and project teams. Community Day is on Monday, October 25 (the day before the start of the main conference). Community Day is virtual and free, and open to anyone who registers for EclipseCon 2021. To register, visit the EclipseCon 2021 Registration page.

Our mission is to define and build an ecosystem of best-in-class open-source Web and Cloud-based development tools, and to promote and drive the broad adoption of these tools. Come join us to learn more about our projects and working group members. With an extended session this year, a full hour will be devoted to the Eclipse Theia project.

Session Descriptions

Cloud DevTools State of the Ecosystem

What has the working group been up to and what is coming next.

Eclipse Che Project Updates

Eclipse Che manages containerized development environments. With Linux containers sharing workspaces becomes simple and fast. Che includes a fully functional IDE in the containerized workspace and it can be Eclipse Theia, JetBrains or VS Code.

Diagram editors with Eclipse GLSP - 1.0

The Eclipse Graphical Language Server Platform (GLSP) is an open source technology to efficiently create diagram editors for web-based tools like Eclipse Theia or VS Code. It works similarly to the language server protocol and can replace technologies such as GEF or GMF when migrating your toolchain to the web/cloud. In this talk, we are happy to give a brief overview of the upcoming 1.0 release of Eclipse GLSP and show its feature highlights.

Dirigible vs VSCode vs Theia: Custom Editors

Can you have a custom editor, which can run in Dirigible as well as in VSCode and Theia? What are the major architecture differences between those IDEs? Which IDE framework is better suited for which development model and use-cases.

What's New in Eclipse Sprotty

Eclipse Sprotty is a light-weight library for displaying graphical models in a web page, Theia extension, or VS Code extension. It has a built-in client-server protocol that enables displaying models from backend services or other remote sources. In this session, I will briefly present the latest additions to the framework and future plans.

Eclipse Open VSX Project Updates

The public open-vsx.org service is continuing to gain adoption both from users and publishers. The registry now has almost 1400 high-quality extensions, which are accessed daily by communities around VSCodium, Gitpod and many Theia-based applications. The main focus currently is getting the project ready for the high load it is already experiencing and the even higher demand we foresee moving forward. Find out more and hear about how to join the community.

Enterprise Application development from the Cloud? Bridging the skill gap with Eclipse Che.

Feeling the pain of onboarding developers with different experience and skill levels; and getting them set up with the right tools and integrations? In this session we show you how you can setup development workspaces for your entire development organization in the (private) Cloud without the need for developers to install anything on their local machines.

State of Theia

This session provides an overview of the latest Theia project news, including recent adaptations to the process, noteworthy features, new initiatives and communication channels.

Why Use Theia?

Eclipse Theia is an increasingly popular, fully open-source framework, used to develop highly customizable Cloud and desktop IDE products, from a single code base. In this presentation, we will give an overview of the reasons Theia was created 5 years ago, that still make it a good choice today. So, join us at EclipseCon community day and learn why the Theia framework, or a Theia-based application, such as Theia Blueprint, might be the right choice for you.
