The Eclipse IoT Packages project hosts pre-configured packages of Eclipse IoT projects in the form of Helm charts. Re-using the provided Helm charts allows developers and operators to focus more on their actual domain and use cases instead of dealing with every detail of the various used technologies.
The talk will first introduce the Eclipse IoT Packages project and afterward reflect on our experiences collected during the integration of the Eclipse IoT Packages project into our deployment in two projects and summarizes the improvements we observed after our migration.
Our experiences gained in the mobility domain are from the Eclipse Kuksa project which aims to provide a platform for the development, distribution, and execution of applications for connected vehicles. A major part of this platform is the Kuksa cloud, which also incorporates Eclipse IoT projects such as Eclipse Hono and Eclipse hawkBit. A proper configuration of those two projects is already part of the Eclipse IoT Packages Cloud2Edge package. Thus, we decided to migrate from previously used deployment mechanisms and integrate the Cloud2Edge package for the Kuksa cloud deployment.
In the industry domain, we used the Cloud2Edge package to realize an on-premise backend deployment of Eclipse IoT technology in a factory in the context of the Eclipse Arrowhead project. This is interesting and became necessary as the Industry domain often requires IT deployments to be operated solely on-premise, which is different from the cloud deployment we have with Eclipse Kuksa.
