This project simplifies the process of adding Swing components to SWT-based applications, including applications written for the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP). It builds on SWT's standard SWT_AWT bridge, implementing much of the tricky code that is currently left to the developer.
Albireo is especially useful to adopters of the RCP who have an existing library of Swing components for use in their applications. It is also helpful to developers who need to use Swing component libraries that do not yet have an SWT equivalent.
This talk is developer-oriented, and it will cover:
Gordon Hirsch is a technical lead for SAS Institute’s adoption of the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. Since 2004 he has developed Eclipse RCP and IDE plug-ins and studied the use of RCP for enterprise client applications. He is the current project lead for Albireo.
Bruno Haible is a member of the Java Visualization developers at ILOG since 1997. He is mainly working on the ILOG JViews product. He is the architect of ILOG's enhancements to the SWT_AWT bridge, that are being contributed to the Albireo project.
