The Open Data Access (ODA) component in the Data Tools Platform (DTP) project is an open and flexible data access framework that provides an uniform way for scalable data retrieval from enterprise data sources. Any Java or Web application, such as the Eclipse BIRT project, that consumes the ODA framework would thereby provide the capability for data providers to plug in an ODA-compliant data source driver to retrieve data.
This short tutorial will focus on the implementation of an ODA data source driver. DTP and BIRT deliver out-of-the-box ODA drivers to access common data sources, such as XML, CSV files, and JDBC. In this tutorial, you will learn how to extend the out-of-the-box drivers to customize them for your specific data source environment. In addition, the tutorial also explains how to implement your own custom ODA drivers by providing in-depth specifics of the ODA extension points. Through code examples and explanation of the advanced features of the ODA framework, participants will gain an understanding of both the principles and techniques necessary to use Open Data Access.
Prerequisites: Some experience with Eclipse plug-in development.
