Call for Participation

Bernd Kolb
Bernd Kolb, SAP
ESE 2010
Program Chair

We consider everyone who attends ESE to be a participant. When you come to the conference, you're learning and teaching about Eclipse by attending the sessions, talking with colleagues, and joining in the networking at the social events.

Submissions for technical sessions are now closed (the deadline was August 16). But there are still ways for you to participate at ESE 2010. Submissions for posters are now open, and BoFs will be organized on site.

ESE 2010 Program Committee

  • Bernd Kolb, Chair
  • Eclipse 4.0 (e4) – Boris Bokowski
  • Embedded – Christine Mitterbauer, Peter Siwon
  • Modeling – Ed Merks
  • Runtime – Doug Clarke, Adrian Colyer

Important Dates

  • August 2, 2010 - Early-bird submission deadline. The program committee accepts five favorite talks from those submitted by August 2. Winners are featured on the ESE website, and receive a free ESE T-shirt (see the T-shirt here).
  • August 9, 2010 - Early-bird winners chosen
  • August 16, 2010 - Submission deadline
  • September 13, 2010 - Tutorials, Symposia, Long Talks, and Short Talks chosen
  • September 13, 2010 - Submissions open for posters; click here for more information
  • September 20, 2010 - Session titles, author's names, etc. are extracted from the submission system for typesetting in the printed program. If you want your name spelled correctly in the printed program, make sure that it is correct in the submission system before September 20.

Submission Guidelines

If you're an old hand at submitting for ESE, the short version here on the website may be enough. If you're new to the process, or want more detail, head over to the guidelines wiki page.

Please note that you are responsible for your submission being correct: the correct type, the correct category, the correct abstract, etc. so we suggest you take just a couple of minutes to read the instructions. Thanks.

How to Propose a Session

What Else Is There to Know?

Speaker Agreements

After your proposal is accepted, you will be asked to sign (electronically) a speaker agreement (wherein you agree to speak – click here to see a sample agreement). All presenters must register for the conference, and you'll receive specific registration instructions after your talk is accepted.

Presentation Materials

After you (and your co-authors) have registered and made hotel reservations, you'll need to start preparing your presentation materials so you can make them available via a URL in your entry in the submission system.

Providing the materials in advance has a number of advantages:

  • Advance materials (complete slides, papers, examples, etc.) are a better advertisement for your presentation than any short abstract could be. The attendees, after all, are here to listen to you, not to read your slides.
  • Advance materials allow people to follow along and make notes.
  • Advance materials allow the audience to pre-select sessions, and thus you, the speaker, can assume that everyone who attends your talk is interested and knowledgable. You can skip the introductory materials and get to "the good stuff" more quickly.

Speaker Registrations

All speakers must register for the conference. Specific registration instructions are sent to each accepted speaker. If you plan to present at ESE, please do not register until after you have been notified about your talk's acceptance status. Please note that speaker discounts may not be combined with other discounts (member, committer, alumni, etc.).

Short Talks (25 minutes)

We provide a 50% discount off the current price for each accepted short-talk session. If there are multiple presenters on a single session, only one speaker may use the discount. Additional speakers register as regular attendees.

Long Talks (55 minutes)

We provide a 50% discount off the current price for each accepted long-talk session. If there are multiple presenters on a single session, only one speaker may use the discount. Additional speakers register as regular attendees.

Symposia (4 hours)

We provide one (1) free conference registration for each accepted symposium. If there are multiple presenters for a single symposium, only one speaker may use the discount. Additional speakers register as regular attendees.

Tutorials (4 hours)

We provide one (1) free conference registration for each accepted tutorial. If there are multiple presenters for a single tutorial, only one speaker may use the discount. Additional speakers register as regular attendees.

Sponsored Talks (25 minutes)

Each ESE sponsor receives two (2) free passes. A sponsored-talk speaker may use a sponsor pass to register if one is available. Otherwise, sponsored-talk presenters register as regular attendees.

A Note About Speaker Discounts

Our goal at Eclipse Summit Europe is to provide three full days of technical content (plus networking opportunities and social events) at a very affordable price. This makes the conference accessible to more of our European community. However, it also limits the number of discounts we can offer. We regret that we can't provide every speaker with a free pass, and we appreciate your understanding and support.
