Have you ever wondered why your car is smart enough to automatically wipe the windscreen when it starts raining, but your home did not even warn you that you have left all windows open when leaving? It is time to improve this situation!

This talk will show you how to transform your home into a smart home using the open Home Automation Bus (openHAB.org). This OSGi-based software allows connecting all different kinds of systems and devices in your home, from temperature sensors to your Hi-fi equipment. Control all of them remotely from your smartphone and be notified of important events through push notifications, SMS or e-mail. You can also implement automation rules, so lay back and relax the next time your lawn needs watering.

Kai works as a Senior Software Architect at Odyssey Financial Technologies, Lausanne. He has a strong expertise in model-driven development and Eclipse RCP applications, which he develops since more than 5 years.
In his spare time, Kai enjoys working on the open Home Automation Bus (openHAB.org), which he has initiated in 2010.
