OpenSocial gadgets are reusable web UI components, as seen on social web sites such as hi5, LinkedIn, MySpace, orkut, Friendster, Ning, XING and others. Developed as part of the e4 project, Eclipse can now host OpenSocial gadgets as regular views. This opens Eclipse for a whole new class of UI components which can be built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
Developers with absolutely no knowledge of Eclipse APIs can create their own gadgets or reuse existing ones, while Eclipse developers have access to the Eclipse Application Services (the "twenty things") from gadget's JavaScript code.

This talk will explain in detail what OpenSocial gadgets are, how to develop them using Eclipse, and why you should consider developing OpenSocial gadgets.

Benjamin is a technical expert at Sierra Wireless, passionated about Eclipse and its ecosystem. He is very involved in the Eclipse community, winner of the \"Eclipse Top Contributor 2009\" contest, and committer on PDE and e4 projects.
