As part of the e4 project, we have explored how web UI components can be embedded in Eclipse as first-class views or editors. This talk is based on two case studies: embedding the Jazz work item editor, and re-implementing the PDE site.xml editor using web technologies.
This presentation will give a short overview about possible approaches for achieving code reuse, will then dive into the concrete approach that we decided to implement for the e4 0.9 release, concluding with the lessons learned and some recommendations for others who would like to embed web UI components in Eclipse applications.
Boris Bokowski is a Software Developer with IBM Rational in Ottawa, Canada. He is the technical lead of the Eclipse Platform UI team, and a committer on the e4 project. He is also part of the "API police" for the Eclipse Platform, a member of the Eclipse Architecture Council, and a committer representative on the Eclipse Board of Directors. He holds a PhD in computer science from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.
