Open-Xchange, boasting single installtions with up to 6,5mn users, is a massively scalable open source collaboration system. The backend is based on OSGi (Eclipse Equinox) and a growing number of modules enables add-ons for mobility, social networking integration (Facebook, LinkedIn, Xing etc.), datacenter management environments, and many more. The talk will highlight constraints and opportunities in working with OSGi from a practical angle, including security and business model considerations. The business value demonstrated in specific examples should make a compelling case for others considering Equinox as a foundation for their services offerings.

After ten years at SuSE Linux I became a Novell employee for a short while, and then left to join Open-Xchange. Current occupation is mainly http://ox.io
