This short talk presents the b3 project proposal (and results from the b3 symposium). The purpose of the project will be to develop a new generation of Eclipse technology to simplify software build and assembly. The work of the project will be a complement and potential successor to the PDE Build component. The project proposes three key objectives: - Making build processes simpler, repeatable, reproducible and adaptable - Bridging discontinuities between building and provisioning software - Aligning potentially overlapping Eclipse build technologies

Ed Merks leads the Eclipse Modeling Framework project as well as the top-level Eclipse Modeling project. He is a coauthor of the authoritative book "EMF: Eclipse Modeling Framework" which is published as a second expanded edition. He is an elected member of the Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors and has been recognized by the Eclipse Community Awards as Top Ambassador, Top Committer, and Top Newcomer Evangelist. He spent 16 years at IBM, achieving the level of Senior Technical Staff Member after completing his Ph.D. at Simon Fraser University. He recently founded his own consulting company, Macro Modeling, which works in partnership with itemis AG.

Henrik is a founder and CTO of Cloudsmith Inc., an Eclipse strategic member and EclipseCon Gold Sponsor. Henrik has over 20 years of experience architecting and developing innovative infrastructure and application software and tooling. Past positions include leadership of BEA's Java Run-Time Group (JRockit) and CTO and/or technical founder of several publicly and privately held software companies. Henrik leads the Eclipse Buckminster and Spaces projects and is a committer on Eclipse p2, and EPP.

Thomas is a project lead for the Eclipse Buckminster project where he has architectural and development responsibility for large parts of the framework. He is also a committer on the new PDE incubator project for b3 and has made significant contributions to the p2 project.
Thomas has more then twenty years of software development experience, and has been on the leading edge of many technical trends in OOAD, componentization and SOA, enterprise application architecture and run-time and development infrastructure technologies.
His current "day job" is a co-founder and chief architect at Cloudsmith Inc., an Eclipse consortium member.
