The baroque city of Ludwigsburg radiates a unique atmosphere. It is said to be the cradle of Swabian poetry and is the former home of the kings of Württemberg. Now, the city has a population of 85,000 spread over seven suburbs and is a prosperous economic center with 50 factories, 1,200 craft-oriented and commercial companies, and over 2,000 wholesale and retail outlets. Local attractions include the Residential Palace - the largest and best-preserved baroque palace in Germany, the Monrepos Lakeside Palace, the Baroque Gallery, museums, and theaters. The city center is a historical market place with baroque churches.
