For mass-producing software, Thales has developed SolFa, a model-based software factory solution. SolFa is built on EMF, and has a two-layer architecture. The lower layer, called “SolFa Engine”, is a tool for editing and executing software factories, based on the Factory Component paradigm. The upper layer gathers Factory Component portfolios that focus on production topics. By assembly, factory components define technological slots that are reusable and configurable to fit project contexts. It is currently deployed on an industrial scale, to produce, for example, the tool infrastructure for an application family.

Benoit Langlois is software architect and project leader at Thales. He has 13+ years of experience in model-driven development in small- and large-scale projects. He always tries to improve software industrialisation and to share this value.
