The g-Eclipse project – funded by the European Commission – is building an integrated workbench framework to access the power of existing Grid and Cloud infrastructures. In the last year, the g-Eclipse project implemented support for a services oriented Grid middleware called GRIA. With the availability of Amazon WebServices (AWS), the g-Eclipse team developed support for this middleware too.

The talk will give a short introduction in the domain of Grid and Cloud computing – in science and business – generally and to the general use cases for users of Grid and Cloud infrastructures. During the talk, the interaction of g-Eclipse with AWS services will be demonstrated. Furthermore the interoperability of Cloud and Grid computing - using the Eclipse file system - will be explained and shown.

After the g- Eclipse project will be presented, the architecture and integration of g-Eclipse framework will be shown. The status of the project and future plans will be discussed. During the talk demos will be given to give a deeper insight in the potential of worldwide Grid infrastructures and potential of the user-friendly, Eclipse-based access to Grid and Cloud infrastructures.

Dr. Harald Kornmayer works at NEC Laboratories Europe in the domains of distributed systems including Grid and Cloud computing. He has experience in many national and international research projects from his former positions in different research institutions. His interests beyond Grid and Cloud computing are SOA and SaaS systems. He is project lead of the Eclipse Project g-Eclipse since its beginning.

Markus Knauer works as Eclipse developer and consultant at Innoopract Information Systems. There he is involved in the development of the Yoxos Eclipse Distribution and is working on multiple projects developing Eclipse-based SDKs. He is project lead of the Eclipse Packaging Project, co-lead of the g-Eclipse project, and a member of the Eclipse Planning and Architecture Councils.
