The DSDP Mobile Tools for Java Project

DSDP Mobile Tools for Java (MTJ) is a project that aims at providing eclipse extensions to enable the development of JavaME Applications. MTJ integrates with JavaME SDKs from all major device manufactures and include features such as:

• Build and pack MIDlet Suite,
• Run the MIDlet in one specific emulated device,
• Debug the MIDlet in one specific emulated device.

Besides a focus on the final JavaME developer, MTJ also focus the add-on developers. It provides a basic framework that can be used to customize some of MTJ main functionalities, such as the vendor-specific SDK integration and build process.

Since the beginning of 2008, this project is being re-structured. In this talk, it will be presented the new direction that the project is taking as well as current project status and future plans. A demo will also be presented that highlights the main features available on MTJ and also how to implement some of its extensions.

Mr. De Paula is a current contributor to the MTJ project. He has a long background with wireless technology and has being working with Java in mobile devices since the first release of MIDP 1.0 in 2000. He has implemented several projects for carriers, such as Vivo and BellSounth and handset manufactures, such as Motorola. Mr. De Paula holds a MSc. in Computer Science and has presented at conferences like JavaOne and Comdex. Currently he is a Senior consultant for Wireless Technology at CESAR - Recife Center for Advanced Studies and Systems where he works a software architect of for Java development tools.
