Philippe Mulet

With Ganymede, the Eclipse project shipped its eighth release (aka 3.4). The Eclipse platform is being used in an increasing broad spectrum of scenarios from tooling to RCP to servers and embedded devices. In this talk we highlight many of the new features that enable these scenarios. We also share our thoughts on the future of the Eclipse platform as we continue to drive robustness and performance while engaging in a broader, long term initiative (e4) to build a next generation platform for pervasive, component-based applications and tools.

Jeff McAffer leads the Eclipse Equinox OSGi, RCP and Orbit teams and is the Founder of Code 9. He is one of the architects of the Eclipse Platform and a co-author of The Eclipse Rich Client Platform (Addison-Wesley). He co-leads the RT Project PMC and is a member of the Eclipse Project PMC, the Tools Project PMC and the Eclipse Architecture Council and is a Director on the Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors. Jeff is currently interested all aspects of Eclipse componentry from developing and building bundles to deploying, installing and ultimately running them. Previous lives include being a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM and work in distributed/parallel OO computing (Server Smalltalk, massively parallel Smalltalk, etc) as well as expert systems, meta-level architectures and a PhD at the University of Tokyo.

Philippe Mulet leads the Eclipse project and the Java Development Tooling (JDT) Eclipse subproject; working at IBM since 1996; he is currently located in Saint-Nazaire (France). In late 1990s, Philippe was in charge of the compiler and code assist tools in IBM Java Integrated Development Environments (IDEs): VisualAge for Java Standard and Micro editions. Philippe became responsible for the infrastructure of the Java tools for Eclipse (2000), then the entire Java tools subproject (2005), and more recently for the overall Eclipse project (2007). Philippe has also been a member of the expert group on compiler API (JSR199), representing IBM. His main interests are in compilation, performance, scalability and meta-level architectures.
