COSMOS is a new proposed Eclipse top level project which intends to provide extensible frameworks and exemplary end user tools focusing on Systems Management that add unique value and compliment the other Eclipse projects. COSMOS will provide the infrastructure for the tools and runtime needed to monitor and manage systems as described through the life cycle of such resources using standard based technology such as ARM, JMX, WSDM as well as work with those standards to improve how well they support distributed composite applications if there are shortcomings.

This talk will introduce the COSMOS architecture and project roadmap, and present the COSMOS core functionality.

Mark Weitzel is an architect in IBM Tivoli's Autonomic Computing (AC) group focusing on open standards and open source for systems management. In addition to being a committer on the Monitoring sub-project of the Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform, he is the IBM lead architect for the Apache Muse project, a reference implementation of the Oasis Web Services Distributed Management specification. Mr. Weitzel has published numerous articles and is co-author of Enterprise Java Programming with WebSphere, Second Edition.
