One of the key technical decisions that organizations make is selecting the platforms that they are going to use for their products or applications. Examples of great platforms that have stood the test of time include Win32, Apache HTTP server, the Linux kernel and Eclipse. As a relative newcomer to this pantheon, Eclipse has learned lessons from its predecessors on how to build and evolve platforms.

Today we are seeing many organizations leveraging Eclipse and other platforms to architect platforms for their specific domains. Internally, Eclipse has been very successful in architecting and building communities around its platforms in an openly governed and transparent manner. This talk will cover aspects of the past, present and future of what gets built at Eclipse and how it is leveraged by consumers in the ecosystem.
