How E.ON uses open source IoT technology for monitoring & control of their renewable energy plants

This talk is scheduled for 11:15 - 12:20 in the FMZ Präsentationsraum as part of the IoT Day.

Since 2012 openSCADA, the predecessor to Eclipse SCADA, is used at E.ON for monitoring and control of solar, wind and biomass plants. During that time new features got implemented as requested by the customer and we upgraded the whole stack from the existing openSCADA base to the newest Eclipse SCADA release.

Düsseldorf based E.ON, is one of the world's largest investor-owned electric utility service providers. It operates in over 30 countries and serves more than 26 million customers.

This talk will give an overview how Eclipse SCADA is currently used at E.ON and where it is headed in the near future. It will illustrate in which ways Eclipse SCADA can be used and customized for different use cases. We explore how to use Eclipse SCADA as a product, develop with it from a 3rd party point of view or simply use selected components for an existing system.

In this context we explain how the Eclipse SCADA out-of-the-box configurator came into being, based on our experience from these and past projects. We will also detail why we don’t use the configurator in our current project and show how to integrate the Eclipse SCADA configuration into an overarching build process and asset onboarding workflow.
