Dynamic Server Applications with EclipseRT

Session Type:
Tutorial [3 hours]
Speakers

EclipseRT is an Eclipse top-level project supporting a large community move to drive Equinox-based technology across a broad range of computing environments and problem domains. Today, there are many projects listed under EclipseRT umbrella.

This tutorial will look at and use a great portion of them in order to build a nice EclipseRT stack suitable for developing cloud applications. A simple proof-of-concept example will be created as part of the hands-on exercises. At the end, an ad-hoc cloud will be created with all participants to demonstrate the cloud abilities of this stack.

Jetty 9 : Modern Protocols are Cool

Session Type:
Standard [35 minutes]
Speakers

By EclipseCon 2013, Jetty 9 will have been released. This talk will focus on the new features of Jetty 9 and how it can change your life. I’ll present samples of many different ways we know jetty is being used and hopefully surprise folks with previously unknown ways that through the simple application of some Jetty in their lives they can scale in production better, they can write better unit tests and maybe even have a novel experience with their Android phones.

Http, WebSocket and SPDY

Session Type:
Standard [35 minutes]
Speakers

This session will present a brief run through of the history and future of web protocols, beginning with HTTP 1.0 and its iterations, through WebSockets and onto SPDY (google’s protocol offering). We'll have some analysis of the pros and cons of each protocol, their most current level of browser support, and finally a look at what HTTP 2.0 (which has recently chosen SPDY as its starting block) might look like. Time permitting we'll show how Jetty-9 performs with these new protocols in place.
