Keeping the cost down while increasing the efficiency and performance has been a growing trend in modern IT organization. Lockheed Martin and its customers worldwide, faces increasingly complex technical and business challenges that cannot be met by stand-alone systems. This has led to a growing reliance on interoperable and interdependent systems that combine multiple components and functional capabilities over a standard SOA framework. This session focuses on how open source middle-ware for service oriented architecture using Eclipse/Maven development framework is used in engineering the next generation Aviation systems. This session details the key challenges and strategies of using open source with existing systems and how multiple open source players like Camel, ActiveMQ, OSGI, FUSE ESB etc come together to build a healthy eco-system including the existing legacy applications to provide a highly scalable enterprise system.

Kiran Chittargi works as a Senior Staff at Lockheed Martin – based out of the Washington DC metro area. He has more than 15 years of experience in the software engineering arena, specializing in Internet architectures, client/server solutions, component-based development, service oriented architecture (SOA) and object-oriented technologies, with a particular focus on the large scale enterprise systems. Kiran has successfully led several software design and development efforts during his career. Kiran is also an Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Computer Science, Johns Hopkins University. He is an active member in the developer community and speaks regularly at various conferences and seminars.
