The ever growing complexity of real-time software systems can be observed in many fields. Industrial automation, automotive and telecommunication software systems thus challenge engineers in several ways. Developing a sound architecture, delivering high quality and reliability and ensuring maintainability over the product's life cycle demand for advanced technologies and tool support.
The eTrice project, a new sub-project of the Model Development Tools, will deliver an implementation of the ROOM (Real-Time Object Oriented Modeling) language together with textual and graphical editors, code generators for Java, C++ and C and exemplary target middleware.
In this talk the presenters will explain and demonstrate the tooling by developing a machine control software live. A Fischertechnik training model of an assembly line will serve as a simple example.
Attendants not only will be able to follow the work on an almost real life example. They will also learn how fast modeling can be using an appropriate and expressive language. And we will introduce some advanced modeling concepts based on state machine inheritance.
This talk will be exciting and entertaining not only for embedded and real-time experts.

Thomas Schuetz holds a degree in aerospace engineering of the University of Munich and is CEO and consultant of Protos Software, which he founded in 1997. He served as project lead or architect in many projects with the focus on model-based development for Embedded Systems. He also is project lead of the Eclipse Project eTrice.
Henrik Rentz-Reichert holds a Ph.D. in Physics. He is a partner at the Protos Software GmbH. He has more than a decade of experience in the development of modeling tools. Henrik is using eclipse modeling frameworks and active in the community since 2005. He is a committer on the eTrice project.
