As Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings continue to take off, the Cloud Deployment Toolkit (CDTK) is enabling developers to use the same workflow to provision resources across multiple providers, alleviating IT management concerns that applications will become locked in to a specific IaaS platform.

But how can the cloud reach an integrated development environment (IDE)?

In this session, Bret Piatt, technical alliances at Rackspace Hosting, will answer all the tough questions, what is the CDTK?  What is the relationship between this and other Eclipse projects? What companies are working together to bring this vision to life?  And what will this really mean, how will it help me reach my IDE?  Bret will demystify how cloud computing can best be integrated into the Software Development Life-cycle (SDLC) and maximize the cloud for IDE purposes.  He will also cover the objectives of the CDTK, including:

  • Allowing developers to easily manage, share, and clone IaaS cloud infrastructures
  • Allowing developers to easily deploy code to IaaS cloud infrastructures
  • Providing reports on IaaS resource utilization for IT management
  • Allowing developers to easily share reports on IaaS resource utilization
  • Providing integration with application server code deployment and debugger plugins
  • Providing integration with testing and performance tool plugins

Bret Piatt, technical alliances at Rackspace Hosting, is the primary technical contact for partners of the Rackspace Cloud division. He is also actively involved in the cloud computing community helping open source projects gain awareness and adoption.  Prior his current role, Bret spent 5 years in Product Management for both Rackspace and AT&T.  A self described “lifelong geek”, Bret’s professional technical experience comes from 5 years at SBC where he designed monitoring and management systems, optimized networks for enterprise customers, and performed lab testing on new products from potential suppliers and partners.
