While traditional modeling tools, e.g. UML tools, are usually based on diagrams, there is a rising interest in textual modeling. Both representations have their pros and cons: While graphics emphasize the connection of elements, it is often easier to specify details in text. In the end, both approaches allow to visualize and manipulate a model.
The Eclipse Modeling Project offers a lot of frameworks to build model editors.
In this talk I will demonstrate how to integrate graphical editing with GMF and textual modeling using Xtext on the same model synchronously, show the critical points and give a demo of a hybrid modeling editor that combines the strengths of both representations.
