The embedded and mobile space is alive and well in Eclipse. CDT adoption in the embedded tooling community is near universal. DSDP has created several targeted projects that address both traditional embedded development and development for mobile devices. OSGi and other embedded runtimes are permeating the embedded and mobile space, and tooling protocol standards like TCF are using Eclipse for API definition and reference implementations.
But there are lots of exciting advances in device development. Multicore is showing up everywhere in deeply embedded systems, leading to much more complicated development and diagnostic scenarios. Mobile web devices are on the rise, further blurring the line between embedded, mobile, and desktop. Mobile phone platforms like Symbian and Android are open sourced, and Linux continues to show up everywhere.
This talk will examine the role Eclipse can play in the evolving world of devices.
