We will discuss some of the more advanced features of the Common Navigator Framework (CNF), including, but not limited to pipelining, trigger points and possible children, dependencies, the new upgraded (in Galileo) priority mechanism, the configuration menu, working sets, quirks when using with RCP, issues when having the same code work with RCP and inside of an IDE, strategies for combining resources with other model objects, and performance. We will also discuss other new Galileo features (at this writing the support for Commands, in addition to the above mentioned priority work). We will go over a couple of current advanced implementations of the CNF to cover the topics. Instead of the usual slides (thanks Prof. Tufte), the prepared content will be the draft Galileo documentation where all of these and other topics will be thoroughly addressed, remarks heard in this talk will be used to improve the quality of this documentation. The list of topics may vary slightly depending on advance input from the masses (feel free to contact the presenter to make suggestions). We will also have a period of time for open discussion where people can identify important issues for future development.
Francis Upton IV is a committer in the Plaform UI and Documentation projects and is currently responsible for the maintenance of the Common Navigator Framework. For his day gig, he runs Oakland Software, one of the smaller bay area software product companies where he has been completely consumed with a passion for data transformation for the last 5 years. Francis has spent most of his career working on system software (the type that no users sees) at Digital, Hewlett Packard, Forte Software, and Vitria and remains surprised that he ended up a UI developer. In addition he has run the engineering departments at other startups. Besides the Common Navigator, his other hobby is playing the tuba in large symphony orchestras.
