STP Policy Editor New and Noteworthy

In this talk I will present the current state of the development of the Eclipse SOA Tools project Policy Editor. I will highlight new integration possibilities with SCA editor and STP Intermediate Model and demonstrate basic use-cases for tool interoperability. Second part of the talk will show how Policy editor could be extended and adjusted for the use-cases outside of regular WS-Policy formats, for example adding/removing user proprietary policies and combining them with build in policies. At the end of the talks the development roadmap will be shown such as extracting of generic XML Editing capabilities and interoperability with WTP projects.

SCA Tools: new & noteworthy

The aim of this talk is to present the SCA Tools project, a sub project of the top level project SOA Tools Platform (STP). We will begin with an overview of the tools available for SCA applications developers:

the SCA meta model,
the XML editor (an extension of the WTP XML editor) used to define SCA composites and SCA ComponentType,
the SCA Composite Designer (GMF editor) that helps architects and developers to graphically construct composite applications,
tools to construct SCA applications in a bottom-up approach,
etc.

Then, we will show how to extend the tools that we provide:

how to extend the SCA meta model to take into account new SCA artifacts,
how to extend the SCA Composite Designer.

Integration of SOA Editors in Eclipse using the STP Intermediate Model

This talk will give an update on the STP Intermediate Model (STP-IM) component. Several new enhancements have been added to STP-IM since EclipseCON 2008 and they include two-way support for SCA transformations as well as a builder-type approach for incremental convergence of different SOA artefacts. This component, part of the top-level SOA Tools Platform Project, already helps in integrating several editors available in Eclipse, including SCA, BPMN and BPEL and is used in production in the Spagic SOA suite. Support for other editors such as EID and Policy is being considered. The STP-IM is based on a common SOA EMF model and comprises several transformation plug-ins as well as support plug-ins such as the builder. At the end of this talk you will understand how SOA editors can be integrated in Eclipse using a common model and the productivity advances this approach brings.

Enterprise Integration Designer: New and Noteworthy

The Enterprise Integration Designer is a sub-component of the SOA Tools Platform project at Eclipse. This short talk is intended to bring the audience up to date with the latest news from this effort to provide a high-quality open source tool that allows developers to construct integration solutions using standard Enterprise Integration Diagrams.

Oisín Hurley is an Open Source Tools Architect at Progress Software. He’s the PMC lead for the Eclipse SOA Tools top-level project, and a committer on the Orbit, SCA Tools and WTP Incubator projects.

Keen to land an indoor job with no heavy lifting, Oisín started out on the road to software development in the early 1980’s, when his first task was to write a computer program to sort change for a maths teacher. His software skills quickly outgrew such fripperies, but when the luster wore off the vision of becoming a multimillionaire games developer, he went to TCD in Dublin, Ireland to get a Computer Science degree. After a couple of years of post-graduate doldrums, he was offered a job at the freshly-minted IONA Technologies. Delighted to have achieved his job goal, he enthusiastically accepted and has been there since 1993. He now works for Progress Software, a change that he managed to achieve without even leaving his desk.

His current interests are domain specific languages for enterprise software development and Open Source software.

It turned out that there was a lot more heavy lifting than he expected.

Jerry Preissler has been working on the implementation of service-oriented infrastructures for 6+ years now, first with Deutsche Post and now with SOPERA. Currently he is the architect responsible for the tooling components of the SOPERA platform. He is contributor for the SOA Runtime Framework (a.k.a. Swordfish) and the SOA Tools Project.

Vincent Zurczak is a committer on the Eclipse top-level project STP. He works in particular on the SCA project of STP, which aims at providing tools for the Service Component Architecture specification. Vincent works as an R&D Engineer for the company EBM WebSourcing, where he also develops Eclipse-based tooling for the OW2 ESB PEtALS.

Adrian is an Eclipse Foundation committer to the STP project and the component lead for the STP Intermediate Model component. He currently serves as Technical Lead for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) projects in the Tuvalu team in INRIA. Prior to this position, he has worked in both industrial and research environments focusing on building automated management solutions for enterprise Java systems. Adrian holds a PhD from Dublin City University, Ireland and a Computer Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Timisoara, Romania.
