This presentation will give a brief overview over the newly created Symbian Foundation and the reasons why the Eclipse Public License was chosen as its open source license of choice. This presentation will detail some of the characteristics of the EPL that have particular relevance to the mobile industry and will explore some of the business motivators behind the choice of EPL. The presentation will explore concrete examples that show how Eclipse Ecosystem companies can benefit from extending their reach and collaborating with the Symbian ecosystem. This is a unique occasion to meet representatives of the Symbian Foundation and to understand the new opportunities available in the "open mobile" space for companies and developers.
Lars Kurth is the committer community manager at the Symbian Foundation. Lars has built strong open source experience and a relationship with the Eclipse community through his previous role as tools architect and owner of the training strategy at Symbian. Lars has 15 years of industry experience in the tools and mobile sector, ranging from embedded and mobile tools to parallel computing tools. Lars has worked in various roles in ARM, Symbian and Nokia: from product manager, chief architect, engineering manager and software developer.

This session is part of the curated collection of short talks titled
