Paul Clenahan

This presentation introduces and explores BIRT, the Eclipse Foundation open source Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) project. BIRT is a powerful report development and deployment toolset that allows Java developers to quickly and easily incorporate reporting into applications without the need for time-consuming custom code. Using BIRT, developers design reports based on a wide variety of data sources, including SQL, XML, Web Services and Java objects, and tightly integrate those reports into their applications using a rich set of APIs. Reports can range in functionality from the simple to the complex, and are all designed visually using a web-page design metaphor. This session will also detail BIRT features made available in the 2.2 release, including data cubes and the new cross-tab element. This session provides an opportunity to understand more about BIRT and how it might benefit your applications.

Paul Clenahan is a member of the Eclipse BIRT Project PMC (Project Management Committee), the coordination and strategic planning group that leads the BIRT project. BIRT (http://www.eclipse.org/birt) is one of the most popular open source Business Intelligence projects, with a rapidly growing community of users leveraging BIRT reporting in a wide variety of applications. Paul has over 19 years experience in the enterprise business intelligence industry working in a variety of Product Management and consulting roles with diverse customer applications. In addition to his BIRT project role, Paul is currently responsible for coordinating overall product direction and vision for Actuate Corporation based on emerging technology trends, market demands, customer feedback and internal innovation. Paul is also a member of the Eclipse Foundation Requirements Council. Paul holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Edinburgh University, Scotland.
