Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on building an open development platform and on building a commercially profitable ecosystem. How can you participate in this community and take advantage of this opportunity? This class will present proven, effective strategies for corporate teams working on and consuming Eclipse-based projects. Drawing on his personal experience as a product manager responsible for the relationship between Eclipse and the IBM product development community, Pat will provide insight on how to best navigate the waters of industry collaboration at Eclipse. He will provide examples of IBM’s experience in adopting Eclipse, describing the unique challenges and advantages of open source, and of Eclipse. The goal of this class is to provide you with the knowledge you need to set up your own infrastructure to interact with the greater Eclipse community and to begin to capitalize on this exciting ecosystem. You will come away from this class with a better understanding of how to best work with the Eclipse community and how to achieve maximum success for your respective projects.

Pat is a product manager for the IBM Rational Software team which manages the relationship between Eclipse and the IBM product development community. Pat has a long history of producing software development tools and frameworks, and in introducing open source and agile programming concepts into corporate infrastructures. His current interests lie in realizing Eclipse's potential in commercially successful solutions.
