Brian Carroll

Do all your development tools - from requirements to deployment - all come from a single vendor and work so seamlessly that you never need to cut and paste information among tools or write some script code to synchronize their repositories? If that’s not the situation in your shop, you probably would benefit from the Eclipse Application Lifecycle Framework (ALF) Project. ALF is intended to turn the problem of integration among development tools on its head, and to put control back into the hands of developers, not the software vendors. ALF builds on industry standards and open source to allow development tools to synchronize data and coordinate development artifacts. ALF draws from the WS-* standards for web services, process-based orchestration and security, and from other open source projects, such as Apache Axis 2.0 and Eclipse Higgins, to provide a framework for eliminating the lock-in and frustration of vendor-supplied point-to-point tool integrations. If you have ever lost time waiting for a vendor to fix an integration between tools or you waste time transferring data between development tools, this talk is for you.

Brian is the Project Lead for the Eclipse Application Lifecycle Framework (ALF) project and a Fellow at Serena Software. He has been developing software professionally for 40 years, the last 25 of which have been focused on developer tools and infrastructure. A former graduate lecturer in the Information Technology department of Johns Hopkins University, Brian has been a popular speaker and project leader at GUIDE, the OMG, Eclipse, and has presented at numerous industry events. Professional interests include SOA and web services, extended set theory, knowledge representation, and data modeling. He holds a MS in Applied Mathematics and BA in Mathematics.
