Martin Lippert

Over the past years Erich Gamma and John Wiegand told the broader audience how the Eclipse team is working and why they are so successful delivering high-quality always on time. The so called “Eclipse Way” was presented as a set of best practices that have evolved over time and are now going to be supported by the IBM Rational Jazz system in the near future.

As a consultant helping teams to adopt and adapt agile methods I helped general in-house development departments to adopt “The Eclipse Way”. Some of them are now using and adapting those practices for several years now. Now it is time to reflect.

This session reflects on the experiences adopting “The Eclipse Way”. It presents the practices that are easy to adopt shortly. The main part of the session will focus on those practices that are harder to adopt for typical in-house business application development, like “Consume your own output” or “Community Involvement”. The session presents experiences with those harder practices and ways to realize an efficient agile process following the ideas, values and most practices along “The Eclipse Way”.

Martin is a consultant and coach at akquinet agile GmbH, a company located in Germany that is focused on agile software development. He received a master degree in Computer Science from the University of Hamburg and worked as intern as part of the AspectJ team at Xerox PARC back in '99. While he is helping teams to become more agile he also authored several articles on rich client and server-side development with Eclipse and OSGi runtime technology for the german Eclipse magazine and investigated the combination of aspect and Eclipse technology. He is involved as a committer in the Equinox Incubator project.
