Morten Moeller

Are you a designer, product manager or developer who has users of various skills (maybe not all Java Developers) use your Eclipse Applications or part of it, this talk is for YOU!

Many software vendors are shipping their own specialized versions of Eclipse (either as RCP or on top of Platform), but rarely are the vendors taking advantage of Eclipse’s customizable presentation layer. This is often because the vendor has the requirement to deliver their application as plug-ins into a standard Eclipse install. If you want to keep this ability you have to design and implement your plug-ins with that in mind, or if your tool is used by business users and developers, then creating a simplified presentation for the business user persona can drastically lower the barrier of entry for this group. This talk will go into both user interaction design and GUI development strategies to make your Eclipse plug-ins work with or without your own presentation implementation and what the design limitations are to the Eclipse Presentation API.

Morten Moeller is the principal UI designer for the Lombardi Teamworks BPMS product suite (which won the first ever Eclipse RCP award back in 2006 for its UI and usability). He has been with the company for 7+ years and has designed most of the companys user interfaces as well as implemented some of them. Prior to Lombardi, Morten worked as a web designer & developer at Truepeers. Morten has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (www.ntnu.no) and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Norwegian University of Science and Techlogogy. His main focus was HCI and Information Management & Retrieval.
