Todd Williams

Eclipse has spawned a new and rapidly evolving software market but making money in it is extremely difficult. The “software glory days” where you created a product with big profit margins and your sales team beat your competitors' out of deals are long dead. Competition isn't just at the feature and sales levels anymore. The Eclipse economy is based on the concept of extreme value, so to be profitable today you must carefully align your entire enterprise in order to succeed. A single misstep in your organizational structure, business model, marketing strategy, sales execution, or distribution channel can be fatal to your product.

For over four years, Genuitec has been extremely successful in this dynamic market with its MyEclipse product line. And over those years, we've certainly learned a lot. In this talk I'll take us on an anecdotal retrospective to identify what worked for us, what didn't and why. We'll cover everything from managing top-line costs, to responding to market forces, to product delivery and distribution. You'll get the benefit of what we've learned about taking advantage of the opportunities in the Eclipse ecosystem to help you survive, and perhaps even thrive, in this turbulent market.

As a co-founder of Genuitec, Todd Williams has run both the R&D Lab and Consulting Practice for Eclipse Technology for the past six years. These dual roles provide him with a unique perspective on innovation and its commercial applications with Eclipse technology.

Todd has served on the Eclipse Foundation board of directors for the past four years and spends significant time evangelizing Eclipse technology and providing thought leadership through numerous interviews, magazine articles, consulting opportunities, and speaking engagements.
