Not every line of code we write is original. A lot of code simply solves known problems in slightly different contexts, and could be automatically produced if only we had the right tool. JET attempts to be that tool. JET is an Eclipse-based code generator and template language that is simple to learn and use. This tutorial will teach you the essentials of JET. The code generators produced will automate solutions to problems drawn from the Eclipse ecosystem.

Paul Elder is the lead of the Eclipse Model to Text (M2T) project and of the JET component. His current interest is in building tools to automate the implementation of design patterns. He has over 20 years experience in software development, consulting and instructing. He holds a BMath from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA from the University of Ottawa. He is currently a Senior Software Engineer with IBM Rational Software at the IBM Ottawa Lab.
