OpenDocument format (ODF) being an open, XML based file format specification for office applications is gaining momentum worldwide promising value and innovation that can be done with an open standard. With ODF being embraced by IBM Lotus Symphony, Google Docs and Staroffice among others, ODF is becoming more pervasive in user and enterprise space.

This session will introduce and discuss OpenDocument format (ODF) based Spreadsheet emitter for BIRT. The talk proposes to demo proof of concept which shows ODF SpreadSheet as emitter to render graphical reports in ODF.

The talk proposes to show how BIRT emitter extension with ODF api's has been leveraged to create ODF emitter. It will discuss rendering of data, dynamic generation of chart and style formatting of data in spreadsheet. It will show how present prototype can extended to add more support in ODF SpreadSheet further leading to ODF Writer and Presentation emitter.

Santosh Kumar is currently Prinicipal Software Engineer at IBM India Software Labs. In his current job role he is lead developer in Domino Designer in Eclipse. He has been part of team in IBM shipping eclipse based products such as Lotus Component Designer and Data Access tool for IBM Workplace. Santosh holds a bachelor degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from COEP, Pune, India. His interest lies in areas of composite applications and object technology with focus on simplification and practicality in software systems.
