The Eclipse Communication Framework includes a growing set of applications to support real-time collaboration among development teams using Eclipse. This talk will concentrate upon the use of common communications capabilities among distributed teams: instant messaging, voice-over-ip, file sharing, co-browsing, and real-time shared editing. We will discuss how ECF enables integrated use of these technologies and services for team communications and collaboration, and how teams can add and/or customize things to support their specific needs. We will also evaluate trends regarding changing technologies and processes for distributed, cross-organizational and/or cross-functional team collaboration.

Scott is the project lead for the Eclipse Communication Framework, an Eclipse Foundation project to provide communications APIs for team collaboration and inter-process communication. Scott has been a committer with the Eclipse Foundation for ~3 years now, and has previously served as a committer representative on the Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors. His technical interests are in distributed systems and more specifically in real-time collaboration and communication applications.
