It's 3 years now since the Device Software Development Platform (DSDP) top-level project was created, and an impressive collection of projects have formed under it. But a single, integrated Open Source package for device software development built on top of the DSDP projects is still missing.

Are the needs of embedded developers just too different to be supported by a single Platform Distribution? At least Java and Native (C/C++) development seem different, but wouldn't just Eclipse be able to bring them perfectly together? How is Remote development related? And what's the role of Android in this picture?

Martin is the leader of the DSDP - Target Management project, DSDP PMC member and a member of the Eclipse Architecture Council. Driven by his desire for constant improvement, he is involved in many areas around Eclipse. Martin holds an MS degree in Telematics from the University of Technology Graz/Austria, and has been working for Wind River in Salzburg, Austria since 1999.
