With an advanced SOA platform, many of the so-called non-functional aspects of applications like quality of service parameters and security requirements can be taken over by the platform. The W3C recommendation WS-Policy offer a means to express these aspects by defining a framework for domain-specific policy vocabularies.

For any serious use of policies, adequate tooling is mandatory. This tutorial will introduce the policy handling capabilities provided by Eclipse STP, complete with a short introduction into the WS-Policy family of recommendations and some samples of advanced use-cases.

  David Bosschaert is a Principal Engineer at IONA Technologies in Dublin. He has been developing software since 1983 and coding Java since 1997. He spends most of his time developing Enterprise Java products at IONA and Open Source contributions for Eclipse STP. He has been involved with STP since it started.
