Eclipse has advanced quite quickly with new use-cases (RCP, Equinox, server side, etc.) and new technologies. Unfortunately, Update Manager has not been enhanced to support or exploit these changes. Equinox p2 takes over where Update Manager leaves off and provides new provisioning infrastructure that carry Eclipse to new and interesting places. In this talk we present p2's architecture and concepts, outline its integration into Eclipse, demonstrate some of the cool new capabilities and touch on what the future holds.

Pascal is a developer with IBM Rational Software at the IBM Ottawa labs (formerly Object Technology International) since 2002 where he leads the development of equinox p2. Before that he has been the PDE Build lead and played a key role in the development of the OSGi based runtime from the first prototypes developed in the Equinox project to its integration in Eclipse. Pascal holds a Master degree from the ESSI (France) and a PhD from the University of Nice (France).
