The goal of this short talk is to give a brief overview of the challenges found on our application domain (Oil & Gas Pipelines supervisory control and data acquisition systems) and how RCP helped on the initial development phase of a new platform for near real-time process monitoring applications.

Among the many RCP benefits, this talk would highlight the possibility of having multiple different deployment profiles, the use of extension points in building our own platform, hot feature updates enabling a high system availability and a few others.

We also intend on talking about how its learning curve was handled and mention some pitfalls when employing it.

Such SCADA applications demand the integration of graphical editors, advanced real-time networking middleware and databases and we'd like to show how RCP helped us.

Prerequisites: A general understanding of Eclipse RCP.
